Naturopath for Digestive Disorders in Sydney
Eating is one of the great pleasures in life. But the inability to digest and tolerate certain foods, with resultant bloating and discomfort, makes eating far less than a pleasurable experience. If you are looking for a naturopath for food intolerances or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Sydney residents can contact View to Health.
Here at View to Health, we can help those with digestive disorders caused by a range of issues including:
- Hypo- or hyperacidity in the stomach
- Inadequate enzyme secretion to digest protein in the stomach
- Erosion of mucosal membrane lining or gastric ulcer
- Disturbed intestinal permeability or “leaky gut”
This may be a result of NSAID treatment, Crohn’s disease or candida overgrowth, allowing large molecules to penetrate the intestinal mucosa. This sets up inflammatory reactions, which can lead to thrush, skin irritations, poor concentration and headaches. Other conditions demonstrating intestinal permeability include coeliac disease, food sensitivity, fatigue and ulcerative colitis.
At View to Health, we offer tests to identify the reasons for your digestive problems. These include
- Food sensitivity profiles
- Intestinal permeability
- Candida test
At View to Health your digestive problems are treated with the appropriate herbal medicine, enzymes, probiotics and nutritional supplements together with a comprehensive diet. By relieving your symptoms, you will be able to digest, assimilate and metabolise your food effectively, and have more energy. To see a naturopath for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), food intolerances, candida or other digestive issues, please contact our Sydney clinic today to organise a consultation. Naturopath for Bowel Disorders Sydney
Ulcerative Colitis
Ulcerative colitis is a chronic form of inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation and ulcers in the colon.
It is characterised by intermittent flares, and is usually treated with anti-inflammatory drugs (steroids) and immune-suppressive drugs (sulfazalazine) which have side-effects.
Steroid treatment can lead to weight gain, acne, mood changes, diabetes stomach ulcers, Cushing-s syndrome and delayed wound healing.
Sulfazalazine can cause stomach upset and pain, headache, decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, itching, rash, joint pain and fever.
In ulcerative colitis, digestion and absorption are not usually affected but there is impairment of water absorption causing diarrhoea.
Crohn’s Disease
Unlike ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease affects the whole of the gastro-intestinal tract. An inflamed ileum reduces the absorption of vitamin B12 and bile salts (which emulsify fat).
Inflammation along the small intestine affects absorption of all nutrients. Inflammation of the colon impairs water absorption causing diarrhoea.
People with Crohn’s disease are more likely to develop fistulas.
Treatment for ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease at View to Health include a herbal preparations as a liquid, power or tablets to soothe and protect the mucous membrane lining and reduce pain, as well as a specially designed diet.
