What Is An Allergic Reaction?

Allergy is caused by an inappropriate response of the host to a relatively innocuous substance. This inappropriate response is an indication that the defence system is not coping. Contributing factors may include liver overload, cell matrix toxicity, leaky gut, immune dysregulation, excess of histamine and inflammatory cytokines.

Allergy Testing Solutions

Allergic reactions may be to foods, pollens (hay fever), grasses (contact dermatitis), environmental spores and toxins (mould allergy) and an array of substances which provoke an inflammatory response. At View to Health, we can arrange tests to determine the cause of the allergic reaction from a number of sophisticated tests available. These include IgA, IgG, IgE, and ALCAT tests for food allergies and tests for moulds and biotoxins.

Hay Fever

Hay fever is an allergy which is caused by an inappropriate response of the host to a relatively innocuous substance. This inappropriate response is a signal that the immune system is not responding appropriately and that the mucous membranes are susceptible to allergic stimuli or allergens. Excess amounts of inflammatory histamines and pro-inflammatory cytokines are produced, causing the symptoms of hay fever.

However, this process is reversible by improving the immune response.

Some other causes of Hay fever

The liver plays an important role in reducing the toxic load on the immune system as it is the main organ of detoxification for chemicals, toxins (harmful substances) and some end-products of metabolism including histamine and adrenalin.

High levels of these can also predispose to panic attacks as well as inflammation in the body.

An over-acidic system predisposes to inflammatory responses in the body. The gut microbial colonies, or microbiome, contributes as much as 80% of our immunity and needs to be balanced with beneficial colonies of bacteria.

Your Naturopath at View to Health in Sydney’s Inner West offers a solution for hay fever for those who prefer effective natural alternatives to antibiotics and antihistamines.

Lynne will give you a treatment to reduce inflammation and excess histamine, and to support the immune system and the liver.

A strain-specific probiotic will support the gut microbiome.A homeopathic treatment may also be included.

A balanced alkalising diet will also be prescribed to suit your lifestyle.

Other factors such as leaky gut or anxiety will also be addressed.

Springtime will be much more enjoyable and a season to look forward to.
